PHILADELPHIA — State Senator Art Haywood will join Sen. Vincent Hughes and Pennsylvania election advocates from across Philadelphia to call for a New Era of Voting Rights for Pennsylvanians while celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.  The advocates will call on Congress to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act in a manner that complies with U.S. Supreme Court rulings.

As part of the New Era of Voting Rights for Pennsylvanians, advocates will call for Pennsylvania’s election officials and legislature to employ modern election systems. Such systems include Online Voter Registration, No-Excuse Absentee Ballots, Same Day voter registration, Early Voting, Automatic Registration, a Voters Bill of Rights and other modernized election procedures enjoyed by citizens in other states.
