Life without Parole in PA: Mayor of Graterford Screening

PA is one of 6 states that does not allow release from prison people who are rehabilitated but were sentenced for life. In April, I hosted a screening of the Mayor of Graterford film with Senator Street in the PA State Capitol. Saturday, 8 June I will host another screening of this film at the Hiway Theater in Jenkintown. Senator Street, State Rep. Sanchez, and many community organizations will cosponsor. To learn more about life without parole in PA and how you can become an advocate, please register for the screening here.

Poverty Tour

In May I completed a four-stop Poverty Listening Tour across the Commonwealth. The stops were Lock Haven, Philadelphia, Erie, and McKeesport. I heard a young man describe living in a car with three younger siblings until he could scrap up money for a bad apartment in Lock Haven and many issues around affordable housing. Thank you to those who shared their stories with DHS Secretary Miller, and Senators Hughes, Muth, Laughlin, and Brewster who joined me along the tour. Your stories will help us compile a report to share with state agencies, Governor Tom Wolf, and the public. Follow me for updates on the Scranton tour soon to be announced.

Impeach Trump

Trump must go because he has obstructed justice and more. I was interviewed by the New York Times for my views on impeaching the President now. I have long been a supporter of his impeachment as are many voters in our district. Public support is growing. In May, I hosted an Impeachment Town Hall with John Bonifaz, constitutional lawyer and founder of Free Speech for People. We explained why we must impeach Trump, and practical ways to create activism around getting Congress to start the impeachment process. Please visit my website at www.senatorhaywood.com/impeachtrump to read the resolution and sign the petition to get Trump out of office.
