Our Solutions: Find Good Jobs & Careers

There are options for good jobs and careers available for young adults after high school. They include: four year or two-year college, apprenticeship programs, one-year certificate programs and more. My office is working to increase awareness of the options including skilled trades. Young adults should consider their path beyond high school. We created this Branches to Success card with more information to show students and their parents more educational possibilities to a successful career.

Year in Review—2019

Senator Art Haywood’s Top 12 2019 Accomplishments

Happy New Year! As we look ahead to the 2020 Year of Justice, there are a few highlights from 2019 to mention:

  • The passage of $15 million each year in additional funding for affordable housing statewide.
  • Completing the Poverty Listening Tour and release of the Poverty Report and Recommendations.
  • Served 2,075 constituents and my office hosted 30 outreach events for expungement, energy grants, Back to School Festival, citizen advocacy training, and more.

My office will continue this momentum through the 2020 Year of Justice initiatives with a focus on social, economic, and environmental justice. The 2020 Year of Justice includes: reducing poverty, fighting for retirement dignity, opposing over incarceration, and addressing climate change. Please take the pledge with my office to become a Year of Justice champion. We cannot do this work without you.

For economic justice, we are hosting a McRaise the Wage Town Hall with POWER at Uncle Bobbie’s Café and Books from 12-12:30 p.m., followed by a march to McDonald’s and rally at 29 E. Mentoring Conference

January is National Mentoring Month. On 25 January, we will host our third annual Mentoring Conference at La Salle University. This year’s conference will announce the first round of mentoring grant recipients and include training and networking. There will also be a featured panel discussion on Mindfulness and Mentorship, Trauma Informed Mentoring and more.
