Read Across America Day
Senator Art Haywood (D-Montgomery/Philadelphia) is scheduled to read at four elementary schools in Celebration of Read Across America Day on March 2.
Elementary school students will get a chance to hear the Senator act out scenes from childhood favorites like Green Eggs and Ham and Appleblossom the Possum. “Reading is the foundation for opportunity” he said.
Read Across America Day was created by the National Education Association in 1997 to promote children’s literacy. It is held on the school day closest to or on Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2.
Senator Haywood will be traveling across the district reading to elementary school students throughout the day. In Philadelphia, he is scheduled to appear at Henry H. Houston Elementary at 9a.m., followed by Roosevelt Elementary at 10:30a.m. The afternoon consists of Myers Elementary at 12:15p.m., and Overlook Elementary at 2:15p.m in Montgomery County.
Senator Haywood also promotes children’s literacy with summer reading initiatives at Philadelphia recreation centers and elementary schools.
