State Senator Art Haywood made the following statement after Governor Tom Wolf signed two executive orders providing for non-discrimination protections for members of the LGBT community in Pennsylvania:

HARRISBURG, 7 April, 2016: “Today Governor Wolf exercised his executive power to move Pennsylvania towards inclusion by protecting members of the LGBT community who are employed by or contracted with the Commonwealth. The executive orders signed by the Governor move Pennsylvania forward by explicitly and decisively ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the executive branch of our state’s government.

This executive action is a critical first step towards making Pennsylvania an inclusive state for LGBT individuals, and it must be followed by legislation protecting all members of Pennsylvania’s LGBT community. I am a strong supporter of SB 974, the Fairness Act, which would extend anti-discrimination protections to all LGBT individuals when it comes to housing, employment and public accommodations in Pennsylvania. Our work towards inclusion cannot end here.”
