Harrisburg – April 21, 2015 – State Senator Art Haywood made the following statement against the Taxpayer Protection Act during a Pennsylvania Senate Finance Committee Meeting today:
“The Taxpayer Protection Act is really just a Taxpayer Deception Act. Instead of addressing the needs of the commonwealth, this legislation is about abandoning our responsibility to each other through the imposition of a one-size-fits-all formula for spending. Republicans give the impression that they want to protect Pennsylvanians with this law, but what they are really saying is: ‘you are on your own…and the state won’t be there when times are tough.’
What citizens demand and deserve is government that works – not just small government – but government that is nimble and can respond to the changing needs of the people. This bill would have the state look the other way during times of crisis – and Pennsylvanians deserve better than that.”
