State Senator Art Haywood made the following statement after a vote on HB 1436 in the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee:

HARRISBURG, April 5, 2016: “Pennsylvania Senate Republicans effectively voted for a tax increase today by allowing corporations to dump price increases on everyday people. All Republicans in the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee on which I sit voted in support of a bill that would increase the cost of utilities for everyday people. The legislation, HB 1436, would benefit out-of-state utility company shareholders by increasing prices for Pennsylvanians while allowing the corporations to evade taxes. The cost to Pennsylvania taxpayers would be $28 million a year. I voted against this legislation in Committee today. We cannot give corporations a free pass in Pennsylvania by dumping price increases onto everyday citizens.”
