State Sen. Vincent Hughes has called for the resignation of Sen. John Eichelberger, chair of the Senate Education Committee, following the Republican senator’s comment that inner city students would fare better in less-intensive academic tracks, as opposed to being pushed to attend college.

The comment came during a town hall meeting held last week in western Cumberland County, where Eicheclberger suggested inner-city students would do better in vocational careers. His statements were reported by the Carlisle Sentinel.
