PHILADELPHIA, October 12, 2018 – Sen. Art Haywood (D-Philadelphia) is pleased to announce four grants that have been awarded to his district to assist with local recycling and leaf collection programs.

“These grants are helpful in the fight to reduce landfill waste,” Haywood said. “Protecting and cleaning up the local environment is a priority of mine. I am excited to see this funding assist with collection programs in the area.”

Grant funding was awarded to:

  • Abington Township, $350,000;
  • Cheltenham Township, $348,422;
  • Jenkintown Borough, $170,100; and
  • Philadelphia City, $350,000.

“Recycling can be costly for municipalities and townships,” Haywood said. “These grants are essential to help cover a portion of those costs to ensure that communities can provide these services.”

The funding is provided through the Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Development and Implementation Grants.

The grants specifically assist with operation of leaf compost facilities, developing recycling programs, expanding recycling processing facilities, continuing curbside recycling programs, and developing educational material on the importance of recycling.
