Philadelphia – August 1, 2019 – Democratic Chair of the PA Senate Health and Human Services Committee State Senator Art Haywood (D-Montgomery/Philadelphia) released the following statement in support of Governor Tom Wolf’s announcement of the Protection of Vulnerable Populations Executive Order:
“I agree with Governor Wolf that child welfare is in urgent need of fixing. The abuse of children at Glen Mills and the brutal murder of Grace Packer further highlights our failures.
Testimony from the Poverty Listening Tour showed that poverty has a critical impact on child welfare as well. The protection of children and opportunities for children go hand in hand.
I want to thank Governor Wolf for his leadership to respond and I look forward to assisting in this effort.”
The Protection of Vulnerable Populations Executive Order will create an Office of Advocacy and Reform and a Council on Reform to take on the child welfare needs of the Commonwealth.
