“The direction in which education starts a
man will determine his future in life” - Plato

Quote

On Saturday, 11 February, my office, in partnership with Martin Luther King High School and Chestnut Hill College, offered more than 70 MLK High students the opportunity to visit the college, watch Division II basketball and learn more about the admissions and financial aid process for higher education. Though CHC is a 20-minute drive away from MLK High, many students had never before set foot on a college campus. Many more had never considered going to college.

Learning about the options available is a necessary step for a successful future. This was just the first of many opportunities I hope to create, alongside schools, elected officials and community leaders, for our students in the 4th District.

More to Love in March

Senator Haywood speaking with constituentsBeginning this month, my District Offices will be offering extended and mobile office hours. You can find members of my staff at the Free Library of Philadelphia Wadsworth Branch (1500 Wadsworth Avenue) every Wednesday, from noon until 3pm. They can help with rent and property tax rebates, notarization and more.

Additionally, we’re extending office hours at the 7106 Germantown Avenue office on Wednesday, 15 March and Wednesday, 29 March. Our doors will be open until 7pm. On Saturday, 25 March, we’ll be open from 10am until 2pm.

We want to provide more opportunities for residents of the 4th District to make use of our services, and hope you’re able to stop by.

Read Across America

Reading aloud to children is one of the most critical, and most fun, ways to expand their horizons and encourage an interest in learning. I’m excited to have another opportunity to participate in Read Across America this year.

I’ll be making several stops in Philadelphia and Montgomery County today to read aloud to elementary school students, sharpening my speaking skills and hopefully inspiring some young minds.

Unfortunately, there has been no resolution to the issues facing the Unemployment Compensation system. The video highlighting the personal stories of those affected in the 4th District has been viewed by thousands across the state - a critical start to raising awareness and instigating action from elected officials. I will continue to do all that I can to ensure that hard-working Pennsylvanians get the money they are owed.
