SENATOR ART HAYWOOD’S

Mentoring Conference

The annual Mentoring Conference was created in response to the youth forum, Peace in the Northwest, hosted by my office in June 2017. We heard from youth ages 15-25, who described incidents of gun violence and sought guidance as a partial solution. I conducted meetings with mentoring organizations in Philadelphia in response to their request.

Mentoring Conference 2022

The Greater Philadelphia Mentoring Collaborative and my office hosted our fifth Annual Mentoring Conference. This yearā€™s conference highlighted why mentoring matters, showed teenage arrests through new lenses, explored mindfulness-based techniques, discussed youth purpose, and taught mentors how to meet youth on their level. Watch below.

Mentoring Conference 2021

Gun violence in Philadelphia reached record levels in 2020. Victims of gun violence and their advocates, like the Fathering Circle, consistently state that mentoring of at-risk youth is a key prevention solution. On 30 January 2021, we hosted our 4th annual Mentoring Conference virtually during National Mentoring Month. This yearā€™s conference highlighted why mentoring matters, taught how to address youth trauma, and propose new mentoring ideas amid COVID-19.

Mentoring Conference 2020

This year, the conference is focused on announcing the first round of grant recipients, networking for mentoring organizations, and a panel discussion on Mindfulness and Mentoring and Trauma Informed Mentoring. The micro grants are offered through the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) who administers the Greater Philadelphia Mentoring Collaborative (GPMC).

Thank you to the speakers, presenters, our partners, and attendees that helped make today possible.
