State Senator Art Haywood made the following comments today in response to a decision by the Pennsylvania Senate to vote on the removal of Attorney General Kathleen Kane tomorrow:

HARRISBURG, February 9, 2016: “The Attorney General is being railroaded by the Senate. Tomorrow, fifty senators will make a decision on the Attorney General’s removal, while forty-three were not present in any hearings on this matter and have not heard from any witnesses. That’s worse than a kangaroo court. Even in a kangaroo court, you hear from witnesses.

Further, the Attorney General is primarily the CEO of her office and does not need a law license to fulfill her duties. The Senate has no basis on which to make a choice on the Attorney General’s removal. The recent decision of the Supreme Court highlights the enormity of the mistake made by the Special Committee in recommending the full Senate vote on this issue.”
