The Senate is expected on Wednesday to vote on a package of bi-partisan backed bills to strengthen protection of victims of domestic violence including a bill that gives more teeth to Pennsylvania’s protection-from-abuse system.

The legislation sponsored by Sen. Tom Killion shortens the time frame that abusers with a permanent protection from abuse order filed against them have to turn over their firearms. It cuts the current 60 day maximum for handing over weapons down to 48 hours from the time the order is issued.
