Harrisburg – November 15, 2019 – Senator Art Haywood (D- Montgomery/Philadelphia) announced today the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources awarded $256,600 to Abington Township and Jenkintown Borough for improvements to community parks.
“I am glad to announce these grants to Abington and Jenkintown that will enhance the safety and beauty of each of these communities and build the imagination of all who visit,” Haywood said.
Abington Township will receive $117,400, and the Jenkintown Borough will receive $139,200 in recreation and conservation grant funds through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Abington will use their funds for the Briar Bush Nature Center, including renovations of the pavilion and additions of parking, a pedestrian walkway, and improving disability access. Jenkintown will use funds for the development of the Cedar Street Moretti Park, including the installation of a pavilion, a pedestrian walkway, nature play equipment, and improving disability access.
“This funding will allow more area residents to enjoy the local attractions Montgomery County has to offer,” Haywood said. “All residents in the community should be able to enjoy the green space we have right in our backyards. These grants will enable families, neighbors, and visitors to come together and enjoy nature.”
